Allow Me to Introduce Myself
My name is Sovereign Capital and I am a 29-year-old investor. What does that mean?
Let’s double-click into myself. I currently work in direct investments at a $3B platform focused on capital structure and duration agnostic investments tilted towards asset-light businesses. There is a permanent capital source.
My long-term goal (hopefully achieved in the next 5 years) is to create a permanent capital vehicle.
The purpose of this newsletter is to refine my thinking, receive critical feedback, and to display my skillset potential investors.
Why Me?
I was introduced to investing at an extremely young age (not in a traditional sense). Growing up in a minority community which trives on non-traditional careers focused on ownership, you hear about people’s investments and ideas, and assets ALL the time.
Naturally, I was curious. Further to this, my family took a poorly timed swing that resulted in a material financial setback that I noticed as a 10/11 year old. This was my spark.
I was fortunate to have mentors around me who were finance adjacent (banks, CFA’s, etc) - but nobody working in “High Finance” as WallStreetOasis likes to call it.
If I revealed my identity, you would probably be surprised at how I made it to where I am (and at the conscious decisions I made to drop).
Around 17, I committed to taking my vocation in finance extremely seriously. I pursued a business degree and launched my career in investment banking at the ripe age of 24 before pivoting to the buy-side.
Why Permanent Capital?
Your capital base is a competitive advantage in finance; if your shareholders are short-sighted, you will make bad decisions.
If you are short-sighted, you will make bad decisions.
Raising a fund seems like a treadmill, and I am not a fan of treadmill businesses or workflows. I believe they result in a poor quality of life and poor decisions.
I want to raise a permanent capital vehicle with shareholders focused on long-term results. This is a massive edge in the dopamine era.
Let’s go.
